Tech Tip Week 3: Canvas Calendar

Image
Canvas Class Calendar After reviewing the different capabilities of the online calendar option on Canvas, I feel much more educated on how to use it! I also reflected on my time management strategies for this assignment. Firstly, I love how this class allows me to make my own schedule and complete my assignments based on that specific schedule. I also transferred all the due dates from the online calendar to my planner to keep myself up-to-date on all my assignment due dates. Doing this allows me to turn my assignments in on a timely basis and I am even able to complete my work ahead of time. Finally, my last favorite capability is how the online calendar can color code your classes and bold classes that have due dates coming up! This lets me see my week as a whole and help me figure out when to complete particular assignments. Overall this was such a fun and helpful tech tip! (Life Planner: Erin Condren )

Feedback Strategies

Feedback Strategies: Giving Good Feedback This week, instead of learning about different types of feedback and why it is effective, I learned how to give good feedback to help other students grow. Giving praise is something all students desire to hear about their work, but it isn't going to help them become better. When giving praise, you need to provide concrete examples/evidence on what areas worked and which areas need more maturing. I chose two articles to read about giving good feedback and these are my thoughts! What Kinds of Messages Help Kids Grow This article was about how critical the language parents use with preschool children will affect them throughout their adolescent and teen years. During the early years of childhood development, preschoolers are developing their self concept-essentially what they believe they are capable of doing. As they mature, they begin to view intelligence as a fixed trait and this can't be altered. Although this may seem alarming, minds...

Topic Research: Untold Prison Stories from the Fairytale Police Department

Image
Topic Selection Last week, I was tasked with coming up with four different topics do base my semester storytelling project on. After going back and forth, I have decided to go with Untold Stories from the Fairytale Police Department. This story is going to tell the accounts of classic fairytale characters like Cinderella, The Evil Stepmother, and Rapunzel with a little criminal twist. Like Disney, they take classic fairytales and make them new and I am essentially doing the same thing but making them a little more dark.  Research I began my research journey by looking into Dan Ashliman's website . He collects different versions of fairytales from all over the world. I looked into Cinderella, Rapunzel, and the Evil Stepmother.  Cinderella- The Little Glass Slipper : This version of Cinderella was a French adaptation by Charles Perrault. This story began with a gentleman who married for the second time to a very haughty woman. This woman has two daughters in her previous m...

Week 3 Story: The Gospel of Mark

Image
This week, I read the Gospel of Mark for the Biblical unit. I chose this story because of faith being an important factor in my life. I was familiar with the story, but reading it for a second time allowed to me to understand the story as a whole far better I also picked up on details I didn't pick up on the first time. For this storytelling assignment, I wanted to retell the Gospel of Mark and challenge myself by doing a 100-word story! I feel like this could be a great tool for other fellow Christians like myself to evangelize and share the gospel. Here I go! 100-Word Gospel of Mark The story begins with Jesus being baptized by John the Baptist. Then Jesus travels to Galilee to gather his first disciples. Immediately, Jesus begins preaching and performing miracles. These miracles reach King Herod, leading him to behead John the Baptist. While this is occurring, Jesus feeds the 5,000 and continues performing miracles. Also, Jesus foreshadows his death to his disciples three times ...

Reading Notes: Gospel of Mark, Part B

Image
The Gospel of Mark Reading Notes After reading the first part of the Gospel of Mark yesterday, I was so excited to continue reading! I couldn't wait to read how the story finished with Jesus's resurrection. As I mentioned before, I am familiar with this gospel, but reading it a second time has allowed me to pick up on details, symbols, and characters I missed the first time. I have so much better of a grasp this time! Characters: Jesus, Paul, Peter, Mary Magdalene, Pontius Pilate, Barnabas, Judas Iscariot, Stephen, Timothy, Mary (mother of Jesus), Joseph, Luke, Caiaphas, Herod Plot: Jesus travels to Jerusalem where he continues to preach the the gospel and the common people are amazed by him and accept his teachings. On the other hand, the scribes priests reject Jesus. To the common people, Jesus preaches how the End Day will come and how they must obey Caesar.  At the Passover, Jesus provides the Eucharist with his twelve disciples. He shares that one of his disciples will b...

Reading Notes: Gospel of Mark, Part A

Image
Biblical Reading: The Gospel of Mark (1-10) I chose to read the Gospel of Mark because as I have mentioned time and time again, my faith is what I live my life according to. It is so important to me! I am familiar with this story, but I thought it would be a great refresher for me to read it again. The Gospel of Mark is the second of the four canonical gospels and it divulges the story of Jesus's ministry from being baptized to his death at the end until his resurrection. All of the gospels end with the tomb being empty to reveal the resurrection of the messiah. Characters: John the Baptist, Jesus Christ, Simon, Andrew, James, Zebedee (James's father), John, Peter, man with leprosy, a paralytic, Levi, Alphaeus, Pharisees, sinners, tax collectors, David, Abithar the high priest, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddeaus, Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, Beelzebul (demon Lord), Satan, Legion, farmer, bleeding woman who was healed, Herod, blind m...
