Feedback Thoughts

Feedback Articles Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt This article was about the fear of never being good enough and battling with inner self-doubt that crushes our spirits and our minds on a daily basis. The quote that stuck out to me the most was "self-doubt can crush confidence" and this line hit me deep to the core. Growing up, especially coming into college, I felt the crippling effects of self-doubt. In high school, I was on the drill team but I often wasn't picked because I was told "honey you don't blend in with the other girls." Then coming into college, I interviewed with various organizations on campus and was told time after time "you are just not the fit we are looking for." Self-doubt found a way to creep in every crevice of my life from classes, to friendships, to dating you name it. I felt defeated. It took so much to overcome this negative self talk and doubt and I wish I would have had the tools from this article in my life at the ti...

Topic Brainstorm

Image
Brainstorming Topics for Mythology-Folklore Topic 1: The Wizard of Oz I chose this topic because I remember seeing this film as a little girl and falling in love with it! I loved the adventure aspect, the creativity that sprang from creating the land of Oz, and the dynamic characters. I am interested in learning more about how the characters were inspired so I can better tell their stories. For this story, I was contemplating how I could put a modern twist of this classic childhood story, so I got thinking and this is what I have in mind. After seeing a previous student take a twist on a tv show called Extreme Home Makeover Visits: Dorthy and her Family , I got inspired to do a tv spin-off as well. I want to transform the Wizard of Oz into a spin-off of the cult favorite, The Bachelorette. Dorthy is the featured bachelorette and instead of looking for her way home, she is looking for love. The characters The Scarecrow, The Lion, The Tin Man, and Oz are all pining after young Dort...

Week 2 Story

Image
Beauty and Blazing Dragon ONCE upon a time there was a beautiful palace that sat atop a hill and it looked out upon the quaint village below. The palace belonged to a king and queen and they had a daughter named Esmeralda. Esmeralda was a beautiful girl with alabaster skin and golden hair that fell in ringlets down her back. She may have been beautiful, but her heart was hardened. She was a greedy little girl.   One day her father asked their servant Marcus to run into town and get whatever Princess Esmeralda wanted. The princess asked for an abundance of things from books, to hair barrettes, to trinkets, and pretty dresses in shades of orange, red and gold.    Princess Esmeralda said, “Bring me all these things and you will be rewarded.”   Marcus replied, “Anything for the daughter of the great kingdom I serve.”    Marcus saddled his horse and went out into the sunset, leaving the palace walls behind him. All he brought with himself was a worn paper...

Reading Notes: Beauty and the Basilisk

Image
Fairy Tale: Beauty and the Basilisk The Three Roses  I chose this story because after reading several, this one was truly my favorite. Beauty and the Beast  was my favorite fairy tale  story when I was a little girl. I loved Belle because she was a reader and always and I was the exact same way! We both always had our heads in books! I really enjoyed the different take on this story of the beast being a basilisk. It was such a fun read! Here are my notes from the story! Characters: Mother, three daughters, basilisk, the prince Plot: A mother had three young daughters and two of the daughters were very greedy and wanted their mother to buy them everything their hearts desired. The third daughter only wanted a rose. When the mother went to the market, it became nightfall and she wandered into a forest. She came eye to eye with a basilisk who demanded the mother’s daughters in exchange for her life. The mother brought her three daughters to the palace and the least gr...

Week 2 Reading Overview: Indian Epics

Image
Week 2 Reading Choice I have chosen to read the Public Domain Edition: Ramayana for week 3! One of the main factors that influenced me to chose this version over the other is because it is free. I love that there is a free option available and I don't have to go somewhere to buy it. As a senior who is in 12 hours and also has an internship, I don't have the flexibility to go out and buy a book. An online free version makes my life so much easier. I also liked the fact that it came with lots of notes and illustrations to aid the reading! Comic Book 1 Sudama : I chose to read this story because I have learned about Krishna in the past from my Understanding Non-Western Dance class. I was fascinated about the culture and the illustrations from this piece. Plus it is a story about friendship and I thought that would be a sweet read! Comic Book 2 Monkey Stories : I chose this story because it was a tale about The Money King and I chose to read about him in the previous assignment. A...
