Seven Ways to Crush Self-Doubt
This article was about the fear of never being good enough and battling with inner self-doubt that crushes our spirits and our minds on a daily basis. The quote that stuck out to me the most was "self-doubt can crush confidence" and this line hit me deep to the core. Growing up, especially coming into college, I felt the crippling effects of self-doubt. In high school, I was on the drill team but I often wasn't picked because I was told "honey you don't blend in with the other girls." Then coming into college, I interviewed with various organizations on campus and was told time after time "you are just not the fit we are looking for." Self-doubt found a way to creep in every crevice of my life from classes, to friendships, to dating you name it. I felt defeated. It took so much to overcome this negative self talk and doubt and I wish I would have had the tools from this article in my life at the time. I wish the people in my life or the organizations I applied for would have given me positive feedback instead of leaving me in the dark. Here are seven ways to crush self-doubt that I learned from this article:
1. Don't compare yourself to others
2. Abandon perfectionism
3. Be vulnerable to a trusted community
4. Embrace a growth mindset
5. Set goals that are within your control
6. Treat your work like an experiment
7. Trust yourself
Silence the Critical Voices in Your Head
This article really spoke to me right away with the title: silencing those critical voices we all have in our heads as humans. These voices can seriously be debilitating. Like the article says, these voices can tell us "we're not good enough, kind enough, or productive enough." It is such a sad truth but I listen to these voices more times than I would like to admit. Listening to these voices constantly day in and day out can lead to depression and a negative impact on our mental health. I know in the past, I tend to coil when I hear the voices in my head spoken out loud to me from different people in my life. Nobody wants to hear their negative thoughts out loud. According to the article, "we need five positive voices for one negative voice." Also, I really loved the four step plan that was created to overcome these negative voices. I want to start implementing this plan into my life so I can improve my mental health, feel more productive, and overall feel more positive. The plan is like this:
1. Look for the positive
2. Hear the positive
3 Dig in to understand the positive
4. Believe the positive, and act as if it were true
